Hi and welcome back.
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the summertime as much as possible. For me, it has involved long dog walks in the sunshine and indoor picnics when the weather has not been so good.
One flavour I always miss as a coeliac and dairy free, is chocolate orange. Anyone else the same? Let me know what flavours you miss.
I decided to create this recipe one afternoon in lockdown when I had left over oranges and wanted to try baking gluten and dairy free cupcakes. They were so easy to make and tasted so good. My family, who I was self-isolating with at the time, ate them in a day and when I added my Chocolate Orange Buttercream on the second batch, they tasted even better.

To make these cupcakes gluten and dairy free, you just need to use gluten free plain flour, 2 tsp of baking powder, dairy free butter and dairy free cocoa powder.
Simply cream your butter and sugar together as normal. Add the eggs, flour and cocoa powder and mix. Add the zest and juice of your orange (s) and spoon into cupcake cases. Bake for 20 minutes before leaving to cool and then decorate!
So I am sharing the recipe with you today. I hope you enjoy. Please let me know in the comments if you try out this recipe. I look forward to seeing your re-creations on Instagram, so as always please tag me using #livingcoeliac.
Speak to you next month! Can’t believe we are already over half way through this year. Chrissi. -x-

I love how simple it is to make some truly decadent gluten and dairy free Chocolate Orange cupcakes. The recipe is just an adaptation of my Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes which you can find here if you want a basic recipe.
If you are struggling to find gluten free self raising flour, check out my blog post on my Plain Flour Cupcake recipe for an easy substitute. You can find the recipe here (it is so simple to do!).
To decorate, I simply creamed 100 g dairy free butter and 200 g icing sugar together with 2 tsp cocoa powder and the juice of another orange. I then piped onto the cupcakes but you can add other decorations. Orange segments dipped in dairy free chocolate would be a great idea.
