Since the start of lock down, one ingredient that everyone seems to be using is bananas. From loaf cakes to muffins, it seems this is one food staple that has been making us all get inspired to bake.
I have seem so many amazing recipes going around online including a truly incredible strawberry and white chocolate banana loaf that I can’t wait to try and re-create. Let me know if you would like the recipe for this one in the comments below and I can get baking.

Sometimes, I want to bake a recipe we can all share, and that is why I love the loaf cake so much. It is simple to pull together and can easily be divided between all of my friends and family.
This gluten and dairy free chocolate banana loaf is so simple and only needs a few ingredients. Simple cream butter and sugar together as normal before adding eggs and vanilla. Anyone else feel all recipes start the same or is it just mine?
Add the gluten free flour and dairy free cocoa powder and mix to combine. Add the overripend mashed bananas and you are good to go! So easy to make. This recipe comes together in 30 minutes. Dust with icing sugar and you are done!
The trick to this recipe is using dairy free cocoa powder for that rich chocolate taste that is safe for dairy free allergies. I use the Morrisons basic cocoa powder but do check the ingredients before purchasing and using.

My Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Loaf Recipe
Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Loaf
- Loaf tin (small)
- 220 g gluten free self raising flour
- 100 g dairy free butter
- 100 g caster sugar
- 3 medium bananas overripe is best
- 2 medium eggs
- 2 tsp cocoa powder dairy free
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp xanthum gum
- Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing to combine.
- Sift together the: flour, xanthum gum and cocoa powder.
- Add flour mixture to egg mixture, stirring to combine.
- Add the mashed bananas and mix one final time.
- Add mixture to a loaf tin and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Leave to cool before dusting with icing sugar and serve.
I love how easy this recipe comes together and the resultant cake is a rich chocolate cake with a hint of banana taste. You can decorate the loaf simply with icing sugar or why not go all out?
I made this loaf at Easter and decorated with chocolate buttercream and sprinkled mini eggs on top (not dairy free sadly but why not decorate with dairy free chocolate buttercream and sprinkles instead?).
